I don't like to get political here. I try to keep the world at bay, really. This is a blog about knitting and chickens and trips to New York and grand babies and dogs and stuff.
But today I have a question I'd like to pose to my readers. I do not have cable. Once every day or so I pop over to CNN to check out their hot topics, see what's going on in the world. Generally it upsets me, annoys or offends me and I knit something and I feel a little better. I tend to pray into my knitting a lot.
Today I don't feel better. I want to know why all I am hearing about is this but didn't hear a word about this until today - and then it was buried quickly by newer and "more important" news.
I want to know why. I want to know why the activities of a hooker and a governor are more important than three stolen babies. Someone, please, enlighten me.

Because the world loves schadenfreude...Eliot Spitzer is a famous powerful guy who aimed at powerful people and made them mad. Nobody cares about a black lady, her three black babies, and her crazy black boyfriend, much to our detriment.

I know sweetie----- life is a real b much of the time. Y'know, we do what we can--- we vent a little and we know that there IS good out there, a lot of it. We keep on making good in our own corner of the world and we make beautiful things with our hands. That is what makes it okay.

Several weeks ago in the midst of yet another Brittney Spears crisis, there was a tiny blurb in the local news about a storm in Mexico (one of our closest neighbors, especially here in San Diego) that killed thousands of people. I don't think CNN or any of the networks even mentioned it.
TV news--any of the stations--gives only a fraction of the news, and then usually only the news that supports the networks political position (Fox News, anyone?). For a bit more real news, and particularly news from viewpoints outside the U.S., I read "The Week." It's an awesome magazine that summarizes the news and news articles from all over the world. You'll be amazed what you're missing.
It's about making money and selling advertising minutes. If the babies had belonged to a famous celebrity it would be all over the news. I don't have tv or cable either. Prayer is good. Knitting is good. Knit and pray for those kids.

Incidentally, the war in Iraq seems to have disappeared, too. I guess "American Idol" is more important.
