Yes, I Said Cut the Knitting! Day 12

In case you didn't believe me yesterday, I have MORE stuff for you to cut into! Same shawl, same pattern, same page (198), new yarn!
Today's contribution is from the amazing and very generous Jennifer Tepper Heverly of Spirit Trail Fiberworks. There are two skeins of her luxurious Penelope, a blend of 50% bombyx silk and 50% merino. Did I mention luxurious? Yum! Love this yarn and love Jen's way with color - saturated, rich, deep jewel tones that make my eyes say "ahhh!" Love it. And you can win some of your very own, along with a copy of Teach Yourself Visually Circular Knitting, if you answer the question below and are the lucky winner when we draw names!
Today's question - What was your first love? (Think about it!)

My first lover was my daddy.
I always wanted to mary him as a child. ;-)

And my first love was the color Pink.
Although I love some more colors these days, I never stopped loving the color Pink. It's such a sweet and cute color!

I don't have to think too hard about this - my first love was a stray tabby cat that became my kitty, not that my dad really let us have pets. He was my first love and will always be in my heart. I named him Spotty because he had stripes and I was a silly teenager at the time.

what was my *first* love? probably my pink 45 rpm recording of Rosemary Clooney singing "Teddy Bear's Picnic". Played it until it died, and still miss it.

Thanks for the contests!

My first love - the dog we had growing up.

I'd have to say lobster - even as a child I craved it.

Books. I could never get enough of them. I used to find a corner where I could bury myself in a book and ignore the world around me. I spent every spare moment at the neighborhood library which was only a short distance from our house.

Through books, I traveled around the world and met thousands of "characters". And it was all free for the reading.

My first love was a smooth haired dachshund we got when I was 7. She was almost human. I dressed her in diaper shirts and pushed her in a baby carriage and she never minded. Even took her down the hill on my sled when it snowed. I still miss her!

My first love was my pink blankie which I had to have with me whenever I slept. It was pink and soft and silkie.

A new boy walked into my third grade classroom. Soon I was in love with him. When he came to my birthday party, I told my mom that I was going to marry him. On June 2nd we will celebrate 38 years of marriage. I love him even more today!

Hmmm, my first love might have been the stray dog who showed up at our house when I was little. Her name was Cindy.

The first thought that came to my mind as far as my first love was: Books. I love them comfort they gave/give me. The feel of them in my hand, the smooth clean pages, the smell, the stories and friends I will make along the way.
My dad and grandad always read to me as a child. Books, books, books...

My first love was my first bike. I got it for Christmas and I treasured that bike. It was my key to freedom.

A boy who was in preschool with me, I told my mum: "I love him like a red apple". Apparently, I was very keen on red apples! LOL

My first love was the teddy bear I got on my first Christmas. He had MANY repairs over the years and lost his mouth somewhere along the line but I do still have him in a box somewhere.

My first love? My mother ... my yellow blanket ... being read to. All things I love to this day. Hard to say which came first!

I'm going to have to say books! I have loved books my whole life and have a hard time remembering a time that I wasn't reading something.

crochtlady said...

I would definately say books, they are a great way to forget whatever ails you. Just get lost in the story and your there!

My first love was my Princess. She was my dachshund. She ended up being nasty to strangers and we always had to close her in the other room when people came, but she was MY dog and loved me best and I loved her. My mother tells me that she starved herself to death when I went away to college. I hope that there was something else going on and that my leaving wasn't the cause of her death.

I loved traveling the world. I could go anywhere and see everything by reading books. It was so much fun. I spent special time in the mornings with my dad and drank coffee (mine was more milk than coffee), read comics and 'Aunt Annie' (Ann Landers). I had a real Aunt Annie and I was so glad to meet her and tell her I loved reading her column. Was I ever disappointed to find out the two were not the same.

All of this...which really just turned me into an avid reader. But the worlds you could live in and explore and see through books. It was awesome. It opened up so much for me.

During the summers I could hardly wait to get home from the cotton fields where we had been hoeing cotton all day to a book. During school time, it was all about staying up late at night to read. During road trips, I forgot about seeing the real world outside as we passed it by, because I had books to read.

So my first love.....The joy of reading and being a part of so many different worlds involved in so many different lives.

So many people have said book but that was my first love too!! My mom shared with my sisters and I her love of reading from the time we were born. As a teenager I would get so irritated if I didn't make it to the library by 5pm on Friday night because then I didn't have enough to read over the weekend. Pretty lame for a teenager!!!

Horses. I loved horses form the moment I first saw them - was always dragging my parents toward one when I saw it. Many, many years later, and I'm still at the barn daily.

My first love was my horse, I think. That, or my grandma. Different kinds of love...but love.

I earliest memory I have, and it may not even be a true memory just a story I heard over and over, was of my 4th birthday party I had a pinata and I got to swing at it first and then I was asked who I wanted to go next and I picked a friend of the family named Jason who was only 2 lol! I had a crush on him until I was 16.

I have always, and will always love APPLES! Even as a baby it was one of my favorite foods. Thanks for the opportunity to win and try this yarn!

I know several posters have already claimed this but for me it was also books. Coming from a very dysfunctional family, they were my escape on more occasions than I can count. Although my life now is a a million miles in every way from that time, they are still one of my true loves.

Books. Like several others here - definitely books. I used to skip lunch at school sometimes so that I could order Scholastic books from my teacher. And my favorite smell was the library.

Liz said...

My first love was definitely books. When I was a kid, I read constantly, and I still love to.

I'd have to say water. Living close to Lake Michigan, as children we spent much of the summer days on the beach, jumping into the refreshing water now and then to cool off. My home town of Milwaukee has may parks all along the river, which has been reclaimed in the most part. When I was growing up, we were either in the pool, the river, or the lake. I can really relate to Brad Paisley's hit song called "Water"

Animals. I can't even remember what my first pet was, but my pets have always been my solace and comfort, from the time I was a tot and my parents finally divorced after a rocky few years of marriage, through my mom's emotional singlehood, through her remarriage (and my getting a new sibling), etc. I think I could live without people, but not without animals.

My first love was Davy Jones of the Monkees.

Not sure I can remember that far back -- but the first thing that comes to mind is Schwan's ice cream! Town kids had milk men and us country kids had Schwan's. My thighs grew up on Schwan's.

I would have to say it is probably a tie between my cat Blackie and books.

Oh gee -- my first love was probably books. I can remember when I was in grammar school our local library closed for the summer due to renovations - we were allowed to check out as many books in May as we wanted as long as we returned them all in September and I had a PILE!! Actually, that was a pretty good way for the library to deal with book moving and storage, huh?

This is very easy!!! I met a boy when I was a sophmore in high school and he was a junior from the rival high school. Fast forward 45 years as of June 3rd this year and we are still together with 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren with another one due in October. I never met anyone that made me weak in the knees before or since. He is my best friend.

Other than books, probably The Man from Uncle. I had some fierce fan girl loyalty.

As I understand from my mother, my first love was climbing: trees, furniture, walls, anything. More than once she has called me a monkey. The first thing I remember loving was the color lavender. For awhile there, it was all I wore and the only crayon I ever used.

My first love ha to be a Shetland pony named Sheba. Black as the ace of spades but the fastest little one around. She would stop dead still if I fell off until I got up and got back on. I had her till I was 16. I used to lay under her in the pasture and read for hours at a time. Gee, I really miss her even more now!!

My first love was a blue stuffed dog named Cocoa Bow Wow that I received from my great grandmother on the day I was born. 38 years later, I still have him and he sits on top of my computer desk.

Shoes and boots were my first love, along with any form of dress up. I have happy memories as a child wearing my aunt's high school band majorette boots (complete with tassels and taps!) and a pair of my grandmothers spike pumps (with toilet paper stuffed in the toes)!
Of course, I also had a great selection of my-size go-go boots and sandals.

I would have to say that my first love was reading. Books have always been a big part of my life. I still have the very first book my Daddy gave me, inscribed with his hope that I would be instilled with the love of books and reading. Let me tell you... his wish came true. I have a definite love of words and language.

Unknown said...

I notice you said "WHAT" and not "WHO." My first love was books. And words. Mom says I "forced" her to teach me to read when I was 3. I don't remember; don't remember NOT knowing how to read.

Books - I grew up in a very religious home that forbade the use of television, and allowed only limited radio or exposure to the media. But books...books were allowed, and I could bury myself in them and drink in new experiences!
While I'm no longer in any environment that is so restrictive, I still read a book a day.

Sketching. As far back as I can remember, I would grab paper and sketch things. I loved to doodle, draw, paint, all of the above. Now, I prefer to show my creativity by knitting socks.

neknitsandbeads said...

I would have to say a love of books. Ever since I can remember, and photos prove this prior to that, I always had a book in my hands.

I started out making up stories to go with the pictures...to now ready classics and biographies. (and of course the occasional beach fluff!)

As many others have said, my first love was books. First as my Dad read to me (he used to make up the most wonderful "voices" for all the characters), and then reading myself as soon as I could.
My Mom used to get so angry with me-I'd get up at night and she'd find me reading in the bathroom, where a light was always left on in the night. When I was older, I read with a flashlight under the covers in bed (I had to be careful and not wake up the 2 sisters I shared a room with
And when I discovered the books kept on a shelf iin a closet in my brothers' room (Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Robinson Crusoe, etc) I used to sneak in with a chair and remove one book to read at a time-she told me I was "too young" for those books-LOL. Once I got my own library card, I was set for life.
