Yes, I am. But that's not the point. I am not crazy about this! Yes, cut into it. Get a pair of scissors and show that knitting who's boss!
Steeking has been used by knitters for many, many years as a way to knit something entirely in the round and then open it up to add sleeves, front bands, or collars. But most of us may not feel so safe whacking into, say, a painstakingly constructed Fair Isle cardigan, right? So in
Teach Yourself Visually Circular Knitting
I start you off easy. First swatch. Then shawl. Then cardigan (not Fair Isle, but a cozy drop shoulder thing with richly deep ribbing, but that's another project!). Today's giveaway is a copy of
Teach Yourself Visually Circular Knitting
and enough yarn to knit a very generously sized shawl in Valley Yarns Goshen, kindly provided by Webs.
This shawl is found on page 198, and is knit in the round and then cut to make a self-fringe. You know those evenings when it's a bit too warm for a jacket, but a bit too cool for bare shoulders? This is the perfect project!
Now for the "how to win part" - answer this question in the comment section below to be eligible to win. Name the one thing you would never, ever leave home without!
I hope I never leave home without my front door key. I know, that sounds a bit simple, but that's the one thing I would need to gain entry. Otherwise, it depends upon where I'm going. If I'm heading for some place that I'll be spending time in a waiting room, I 'll grab my current knitting project. If I'm driving, my car keys, etc.
ReplyDeleteI never leave home without my cellphone and my keys.
ReplyDeleteMy keys are the only thing I always have with me when I go out the door. And my glasses since I can't see past my nose without them.
ReplyDeleteI grab my purse and a knitting bag on my way out the door.
ReplyDeleteMy dentures. I look quite silly without them. Seriously, I put things on a chair near the door until I'm ready to leave and that way, hopefully save on time and mileage.
ReplyDeleteI try to never leave home without my brain, although I can certainly leave my sanity behind at any given notice.
ReplyDelete:)
Otherwise, I have to have my phone with me at all times.
My wallet - gotta have ID and some money/credit just in case!
ReplyDeleteI've left home without pretty much everything...by accident. I've discovered that I don't have my wallet, purse, driver's licence, debit card, etc, etc. So as much I wouldn't ever mean to leave without some form of money, I have.
ReplyDeleteMy knitting bag. I've been stuck so many times sitting somewhere with nothing to do. I have a small bag with 2 at a time socks all the time that I can work on - even in a long drive thru line!
ReplyDeletewish I could say it was my house key, but given I've locked myself out of the house twice in as many months can't say that.
ReplyDeleteProbably, then, my sunglasses, at least during the daytime.
I never leave home without my pants on...unless I am wearing a skirt!
ReplyDeletethese days it would be my smartphone since it tells me where I need to be keeps me in touch with my family.
ReplyDeleteI may leave the house without my knitting, keys or wallet (when I'm headed to the bike trail) but I always have my cell phone.
ReplyDeleteKnitting for in the car is the first thing to go into my bag
ReplyDeletemy NookColor is the second item I am not leaving the house without these days.
By now I am really, really wanting to add your third book to my library of MMO books.
hugs,
Gerry
My keys, my knitting bag, my glasses and my Kindle.
ReplyDeleteI never leave without my "emergency knitting"!! It's a phrase my friends and I came up with to describe projects we do when we have to wait or are driving or any other situation where we didn't expect to have time to knit.
ReplyDeleteMy iPhone!
ReplyDeleteAs simple as it is, I never leave home without my purse, which contains the necesseties of my wallet, keys, cellphone, lip balm, etc....
ReplyDeleteMONEY! So hard to do anything without it.
ReplyDeleteI never leave home without my purse (or it's equivalent) which contains my keys, phone, wallet, etc. I usually grab a craft bag with some project in it , as Mr. Rogers said, "Something to do while I'm waiting . . ."
ReplyDeleteMy purse which holds everything but the kitchen sink! It usually has some knitting project in it!
ReplyDeleteMy purse.
ReplyDeleteI don't leave home (meaning the yard or the neighbor's house) without my purse. I may not have the keys or the cell phone or the checkbook in it the way I'm supposed to, but I'll grab the bag on the way out the door!
ReplyDeleteI never leave my house without my cell phone. Don't wanna be stuck somewhere without it.
ReplyDeleteMy phone....I've become so dependent on it. :::sigh:::
ReplyDeleteHmmm, when I walk the dog I take keys and my phone... except when I don't. I'll go with keys.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm very afraid of steeks and have been trying to get up the nerve to tackle them anyway. Thanks for easing us in!
I always bring my purse- it's so big I can stuff a lot of crap in it while I'm out!
ReplyDeleteMy purse, car keys, and phone.
ReplyDeleteesea on Ravelry
I never leave home without my cellphone, but it depends on where I am going. The other two things are my purse and keys.
ReplyDeleteKeys, of course as mentioned. Also my chapstick.
ReplyDeleteI always take my knitting bag (which also contains my ID) so I have something to do if I have to wait. Now, I just need to decide if not having to wait is good or bad. I guess it depends on how close I am to being finished with the project!
ReplyDeleteGlasses, Kindle e-reader loaded with a sock pattern and my sock knitting bag that holds everything I need for knitting the current pair of socks plus my purse that contains my cell phone, door key, car keys and all needed ID and credit/debit card. That is all I need to survive in any situation. Bad situation, I can kill time by knitting. In a good situation, I may find a yarn shop or a good restaurant. What more can a woman ask for?
ReplyDeleteMy camera!
ReplyDeleteI never leave home without some form of lipbalm--I rotate between chapstik, carmex, and rosebud salve. I would sooner leave without my keys than without my chapstik!
ReplyDeleteMy purse. In which I usually keep my wallet, a small knitting project, a book, and a small make-up case containing Chapstick, gum, lipstain, hand cream, hand sanitizer, headache medicine, and hair ties.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember, but sometimes forget, my phone.
My smile.

I try very hard not to leave home without my sense of humor. These days it really comes in handy.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'd be lost if I left home without my purse. In my purse is my ID, keys, mobile phone with its camera, money (limited as it is), meds, nail file, and emergency tatting project should I find time on my hands. Basically everything but the kitchen sink. Yes, it is a BIG purse, but then it carries so many needed items - mine, my hubbys and daughters! Leaving my purse means I'm nearly unable to function away from home!
ReplyDeleteMy cell phone.
ReplyDeleteI never leave home without my purse which has everything I need in it (phone, wallet, keys, medications, etc)and most of the time some type of knitting and/or a book. I hate waiting with nothing to do.
ReplyDeleteI hope I would never leave home without my purse since it contains my essentials: DL, take-a-long knitting project, lip balm, hand lotion, kleenex, you get the idea. Small purses aren't for me!
ReplyDeleteKeys! I've done it before - left keys hanging in the door. Oops!
ReplyDeletegiven my ability to forget absolutely everying, I think the only thing I truly never leave home without is my glasses -- and shoes.
ReplyDeleteOne thing? That would have to be my purse......so that I can carry my keys, wallet, iPhone and most importantly, my knitting. ;-)
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago I would have just said my keys. However, with technology I would now say my keys and cell phone.
ReplyDeleteI'm a hands free cell phone talker in my car. It irks me to no end the people I see driving around with a hand holding a cell phone to their ear.
If it's raining, I grab an umbrella. I have 3 in the car already and need to bring them back inside before I run out of them.
ReplyDeleteMy sunglasses.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I never leave home without is my purse-I have a big one that allows me to carry a sock knitting project. I call them my "car socks". Never know when a knitting opportunity will happen.
ReplyDeleteI feel so vulnerable if I leave the house without my phone
ReplyDeleteTough one! What I take depends where I'm going, but I never leave home without some form of clothes.
ReplyDeleteI never leave home without my kindle. You never know when you will get some free time to read.
ReplyDeleteI never leave the house without my glasses. And lately, I don't leave home without my knitting.
ReplyDeleteKeys are something that I need if I am going anywhere beyond my front yard. I keep a small project (either knit or crochet) in my purse so that if I am driving somewhere then I always have a project to keep me occupied in case I need to wait somewhere while out.
ReplyDeletemy keys
ReplyDeleteI never leave home without my cell phone for sure. I drive an older car, so sometimes that's all I have to cry for help.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm doing any type of sitting and waiting, then I always have knitting with me.
Well it sounds silly but being fairly well endowed I would never leave home without wearing a bra! Silly I know! But I have left home forgetting cell phone, keys, lunch etc.....
