Steeking has been used by knitters for many, many years as a way to knit something entirely in the round and then open it up to add sleeves, front bands, or collars. But most of us may not feel so safe whacking into, say, a painstakingly constructed Fair Isle cardigan, right? So in Teach Yourself Visually Circular Knitting
I start you off easy. First swatch. Then shawl. Then cardigan (not Fair Isle, but a cozy drop shoulder thing with richly deep ribbing, but that's another project!). I hope I never leave home without my front door key. I know, that sounds a bit simple, but that's the one thing I would need to gain entry. Otherwise, it depends upon where I'm going. If I'm heading for some place that I'll be spending time in a waiting room, I 'll grab my current knitting project. If I'm driving, my car keys, etc.

ReplyDeleteMy dentures. I look quite silly without them. Seriously, I put things on a chair near the door until I'm ready to leave and that way, hopefully save on time and mileage.

ReplyDeleteI've left home without pretty much everything...by accident. I've discovered that I don't have my wallet, purse, driver's licence, debit card, etc, etc. So as much I wouldn't ever mean to leave without some form of money, I have.
ReplyDeleteMy knitting bag. I've been stuck so many times sitting somewhere with nothing to do. I have a small bag with 2 at a time socks all the time that I can work on - even in a long drive thru line!

ReplyDeleteI never leave without my "emergency knitting"!! It's a phrase my friends and I came up with to describe projects we do when we have to wait or are driving or any other situation where we didn't expect to have time to knit.

ReplyDeleteI always take my knitting bag (which also contains my ID) so I have something to do if I have to wait. Now, I just need to decide if not having to wait is good or bad. I guess it depends on how close I am to being finished with the project!
ReplyDeleteGlasses, Kindle e-reader loaded with a sock pattern and my sock knitting bag that holds everything I need for knitting the current pair of socks plus my purse that contains my cell phone, door key, car keys and all needed ID and credit/debit card. That is all I need to survive in any situation. Bad situation, I can kill time by knitting. In a good situation, I may find a yarn shop or a good restaurant. What more can a woman ask for?

I try very hard not to leave home without my sense of humor. These days it really comes in handy.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'd be lost if I left home without my purse. In my purse is my ID, keys, mobile phone with its camera, money (limited as it is), meds, nail file, and emergency tatting project should I find time on my hands. Basically everything but the kitchen sink. Yes, it is a BIG purse, but then it carries so many needed items - mine, my hubbys and daughters! Leaving my purse means I'm nearly unable to function away from home!

ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago I would have just said my keys. However, with technology I would now say my keys and cell phone.
ReplyDeleteI'm a hands free cell phone talker in my car. It irks me to no end the people I see driving around with a hand holding a cell phone to their ear.
If it's raining, I grab an umbrella. I have 3 in the car already and need to bring them back inside before I run out of them.

ReplyDeleteKeys are something that I need if I am going anywhere beyond my front yard. I keep a small project (either knit or crochet) in my purse so that if I am driving somewhere then I always have a project to keep me occupied in case I need to wait somewhere while out.

Well it sounds silly but being fairly well endowed I would never leave home without wearing a bra! Silly I know! But I have left home forgetting cell phone, keys, lunch etc.....
